Ambedkar to be made in China

HYDERABAD:  China is the go-to factory for India’s idols. Ignoring Made-in-India times, the Telangana government will purchase a 125-foot statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar from China. It had also ordered a Made-in-China 108-foot-long idol of Lord Hanuman, to be installed at the entrance of a temple complex in the state. A team, headed by Deputy CM K Srihari, which is touring the Communist nation at present.

Last week, a delegation of ministers from Telangana held talks with the representatives of Shanghai Electric Company. A 125-foot-tall BR Ambedkar statue, planned to be erected at Necklace Road in Hyderabad—followed by the 108-foot idol of Lord Hanuman, proposed to be installed at the main entrance of Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple complex in Yadadri—will be imported from China.


“Today we held preliminary discussions with the representatives of Shanghai Electric Company with regard to the making and erection of a huge statue of BR Ambedkar.

We also interacted with the technical experts. We will visit some more companies in China, which are known for their expertise in making tall and huge statues,” deputy chief minister K Srihari said in a release.

A senior official says as China is known for making huge statues, the government wants to avail the services of Chinese firms to make Ambedkar statue and idol of Lord Hanuman.
