Golden milestone

This a golden moment for Raja and Radha Reddy, who have complete 50 years of performing as Kuchipudi dancers. They met when he was 11 and she was 5, and have been dancing ever since. Celebrating the milestone on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, they present themselves as Shiva and Parvati, performing the Shiva panchakshra stuti based on the five syllables Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya. “She is the perfect Parvati to my black Shiva self,” he says. In addition, a variety of narratives by other artistes will be staged too.

The show commences with Rudrachamakam (set of vedic chants of Shiva). Then there will be various leelas or episodes of Lord Shiva’s life. The story of Neelkantha Shiva will be staged too,
in addition to the popular Shiva tandava.

The concert will host the Gundecha Brothers, who will perform the composition,  Shiva-Shiva-Shiva, bringing together Hindustani and Karnatic. “Vocalist Ashwini Bhide Deshpande will pay tribute to Shiva in her own classical style. Yamini Reddy and Bhavana Reddy will recreate our nationally and internationally acclaimed choreography, Shiv Leela,” he says.
February 24, at NatyaTarangini Performing Art Cente, Plot No. 49 and 52, Pushp Vihar, Sector-6, 8.30 pm. Entry by invitation only. Invites can be collected fromeventbrite.com.
