KOCHI: ‘Pulsar’ Suni alias Sunil Kumar, who has been sent to police custody till March 5 for the abduction and molestation of a popular Malayalam actress, had earlier laid a similar trap to abduct another actress in Kerala. There are already nine cases of cheating, burglary and robbery pending against him across the state.

Around six years ago, when actor-producer Menaka Suresh Kumar landed in Kochi for the shooting of the film Orkut Oru Ormakoot, a vehicle came to pick her up. There were two persons in the cabin of the tempo traveller along with the driver, a 30-year-old youth.

Nothing amiss so far. But suspicion dawned on her when she realised the vehicle instead of going to the resort near Aroor returned to Vyttila.

As the youth kept parrying her repeated queries, she freaked out and rang up her husband, producer G Suresh Kumar.

“Regaining her composure, she started talking aloud. She said Johny Sagarika, the producer of the movie, was right behind the vehicle. The youth panicked and drove the vehicle back to the resort. Dropping her at the portico in haste, he fled from the scene. When she inquired at the reception, she found no room booked in her name, and she was miscorrectly informed. Only when Sagarika reached the resort after being informed by Suresh did she realise it was a plot hatched by his driver Pulsar Suni,” said Suresh. The trap, however, was laid for another young actress.

The next day, Suresh Kumar along with his wife reached Ernakulam Central police station and filed a complaint. However, nothing happened. Sunil, hailing from Koovappady near Perumbavoor, had left home 17 years ago. His love for motorbikes earned him the moniker ‘Pulsar’. His younger sister, who was married off, was his only contact with the family.

When Suni’s family learnt about his criminal antecedents through newspapers, they brought him home. But soon he went back to his errant ways. His close connection with the police was evident from the case of Rasheed, a driver. The latter had a car which was used by production units. Sunil took his car and sold it.

“Rasheed filed a plaint with the Palarivattom police and Suni started threatening Rasheed’s family. However, the case was buried and, curiously, the policeman brokered a compromise,” said a friend of Rasheed.

Suni had worked with a number of celebrities, including actor Mukesh for some time. His last outing was with Lal Creations and was in Goa for 30 days in connection with the shooting of Honey Bee 2.
