NEW DELHI: Delhi University will soon have its own disaster management task force for the first time as varsity affiliated Ram Lal Anand (RLA) College is starting a certificate course in disaster management from this session.
Apart from the students enrolled in the course, National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) volunteers will be a part of this six-month course that is college principal Rakesh Gupta’s brainchild.
“Students can pursue this course with any UG or PG course. Guest faculty from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will teach and train the volunteers in using fire equipment and other techniques to tackle emergency situations,” said Gupta.
“Disaster can occur anytime, so we should be prepared enough to tackle it. After we have a trained taskforce, special disaster response unit will be formed in all colleges. List of emergency and helpline numbers will also be made for all colleges.”
The course fee is mere Rs 500 and admission will be given only on first-come, first-serve basis.
