NEW DELHI: Sacked AAP minister Kapil Mishra’s BJP connections led to his ouster from AAP, claim sources. His movements were under watch by the leadership since a year. Accused of being a fifth column, insiders claim he helped former AAP MLA Ved Prakash join BJP just before MCD elections.

AAP insiders allege that sacked minister Kapil Mishra was trying to “instigate” eight more MLAs against the party.

“The party wanted to sack him before the MCD elections, but it would’ve sent out the wrong message,” says an AAP leader. After Mishra initiated a joint fumigation drive with BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari in September 2016, the leadership began to observe his movements closely.

“Mishra also attended various parties thrown by Delhi BJP leaders,” AAP sources said. “He also projected himself as a ‘nationalist’ at party meetings, taking a ‘soft stand’ against the Centre in TV debates,” a party insider claimed.

Leaders also ask why Mishra was never targeted by the BJP even though the party was being constantly slammed. “Even when BJP asked agencies to probe AAP leaders, how come Mishra was spared?” questioned a party insider.
