A major missing happened when Yeti, The Himalayan Kitchen, pulled shutters in 2015, as its lease term expired. That also shut doors to the wonderfully delicious passage to Tibetan, Nepalese and Himayalan cuisine, that Delhi had begun to enjoy in Hauz Khas Village. Good news is that it’s back. Even better news is that nothing much has changed, or at least not the food.

Yeti is being managed by the same team that manages Raasta, the Caribbean Lounge, next to it. While the former is essentially known for its food and the latter for its music, it’ll be interesting to see how the two specialities form a symbiosis.

Restaurateurs Joy Singh and Rahul Kundan, who will be managing Yeti, tell us about their plans of introducing new items from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and of course, the Himalayan region in the near future. For now, you enjoy the classics. For those who know the place well, understand that Aloo Momos, a house speciality, is one of the best that could be on your table.

Yeti introduced this dish as its signature and instantly became a favourite. The Sliced Pork with Vegetables, Choila (a Nepali spiced grilled meat dish), Thakali Thali (Nepali thali), Ema Datchi (potato, chilli peppers and cheesy curry), Thukpa, and Chicken Momos are others that became a sweet lasting memory. You don’t want to miss the Tibetan steamed tingmo bread. “Expect to get all that you had expected from the previous Yeti,” says Singh.

The interiors are inspired by the Namche Bazaar of Nepal. The decor edgy with details such as exposed brick walls, mandalas, Tibetan prayer wheels and flags. “We wanted to associate this with a cool, contemporary Himalayan Café vibe,” says Kundan. The vibe is now a permanent feeling, and we give that a thumbs up.
