NEW DELHI: An electronic baggage tow tractor, used for carrying passenger luggage to an aircraft, collided into a stationary Air India plane at the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday morning. According to the Air India, the engine of the aircraft was damaged badly during the incident. The plane that was scheduled to take off to Shanghai departed after a 45-minute delay.

According to a senior officer, the incident took place around 11 am on Saturday when the Boeing 787 aircraft, AI 348, was parked at the stand A10 and was being preparing for takeoff, when a baggage tug suddenly moved towards the plane and hit its engine.

The flight was scheduled to depart for Shanghai at 12.15pm. The aircraft was inspected for any damage. Air India officials said they are investigating the incident and confirmed that the employees handling the baggage tug have been de-rostered. DGCA has initiated an enquiry in the matter and sought a reply from ground handling team.
