SRI NAGAR: Two weeks after Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide attackers stormed a military station near Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, unknown people pelted stones at the army camp. The stone pelters targeted the 36 Brigade military station at Sunjuwan on Thursday evening, said sources in Jammu.

They said the stone pelters targeted post number 12 of the camp. The post is close to the spot from where three Jaish fidayeen had sneaked into the camp on February 10 and engaged security personnel in two days of gunfighting. Six soldiers, a civilian and all the three attackers were killed. More than 12 others, including two army officers injured. The sources said the soldiers manning the post were restrained and did not fire at the youth.

The police were searching for the attackers. They have registered an FIR.The police remains deployed around the area now. “Police has taken cognizance of the incident and launched investigations. We are investigating whether the boys who pelted stones on the army camp were locals or outsiders. It is being investigated,” Jammu senior superintendent of police Vivek Gupta told The Sunday Standard.

Stone pelting by mobs was so far confined to the Valley. This is the first time that an establishment of security forces was attacked in Jammu. In the February 10 attack, the militants who were killed were not carrying communication equipment. This has given rise to suspicion that they had local help described by the police as ‘Over Ground Workers’ (OGWs) of the militants.
