Delhi: North MCD cracks down on illegal hoardings

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to take strict action against the unauthorised use of advertising space under its jurisdiction.

NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to take strict action against the unauthorised use of advertising space under its jurisdiction. The decision comes after BJP councillor Poonam Prashar Jha submitted a report to the officials on signages that are operated by private companies without the permission of the corporation in roughly 180 locations across North Delhi.

“I have highlighted that more than 180 such illegal unipoles are operational in North Delhi Municipal Corporation which is causing a loss of major revenue to the corporation. The corporation is in a very bad financial state, we just cannot keep blaming others for our faults, this issue is very important and I am just making an effort to plug in this leak,” said the councillor.

“We are looking into the complaint from the councillor. Action has also been initiated in a few cases. We will soon present a report to the standing committee chairman and the commissioner in this regard,” said M A Rehman, Additional Director, Revenue department North MCD. The corporation leases out specific areas in clusters to different contractors to put up unipoles for advertising, thereby earning revenue.
