Arrests reveal tip of the iceberg

Published: 09th Sep 2012 08:25:29 AM

The recent arrests and interrogation of the 11 terror suspects reveal a terrifying new terror plan to create instability in urban India. The worrisome part of the conspiracy is that DRDO Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Shoaib Ahmed Mirza had been thoroughly vetted before he was hired by India’s premier defence research agency, which conducts many top research weapons projects.

Karnataka Home Minister R Ashok suspects that the arrests reveal just the tip of the iceberg. It now appears that the terror network is far bigger than the police initially thought. Ashok has revealed that more arrests are likely soon.

The record of the Bangalore police in solving terror cases is a mottled one. The LeT attack on Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on December 26 in 2005, which can be considered as the first terror attack in Karnataka, had claimed the life of a professor and left several injured. Cops are yet to track down the main accused in the case, Abu Hamza. They are not even sure if he is dead or alive.
