World Zoonoses Day is observed every year on July 6 to create awareness on zoonotic diseases, how to prevent them and what actions to take when exposed. A zoonotic disease is one that can be passed between animals and humans. Scientists estimate that more than 6 out of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spread from animals.The day commemorates July 6, 1885, when Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first vaccine against Rabies virus, a zoonotic disease.
