In July, the Brus had signed an agreement on their repatriation with the Centre besides Tripura and Mizoram governments.
A total of 5,407 Bru families, who were displaced from Mizoram due to ethnic tension, have been living in various camps in Tripura since 1997.
The Centre has given a choice to Bru (Reang) refugees, lodged in relief camps in Tripura, to either go back to their villages in Mizoram or be ready to be denied free ration and other facilities.
The choice has made the refugees to think of going on the warpath. They are planning to launch a series of protests, particularly blockades on roads leading to Mizoram.
Centre said that each family would be given Rs 4 lakh to be kept in FD within 1-mth of repatriation. The refugees demand money in advance and insist that is kept in their savings account.
The Bru militancy was a reactionary movement against Mizo nationalist groups who had demanded in the mid-1990s that the Brus be left out of the state's electoral rolls.
