Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora reviewed the preparedness of officials concerned for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections here on Wednesday.
Arora further said that strict action would be initiated against officers on election duty if they are found guilty of having "malafide" intentions while executing their duties.
Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, as well as deputy election commissioners Umesh Sinha, Sandip Saxena, Sudip Jain and Chandrabushan Kumar, were also present.
Tewari said the Congress position has been cleared many times on its demand for returning to the paper ballot as many stakeholders have expressed doubts on the efficacy of EVMs.
Sunil Arora asked the officials to ensure adherence to the deadlines specified for completion of the machines' first level checking.
"Any machine can malfunction. You purchase a new car, it can malfunction within a week," said Arora at a gathering at the PGIMER in Chandigarh
Besides the Lok Sabha polls, Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are scheduled to be held next year.
