While Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain on Thursday took over as the eastern fleet commander, Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh will take over as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff at HQ.
In his farewell address, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh said he was feeling proud for being associated with thorough professionals at the command in the last 19 months since October 2017.
Verma had questioned the government's decision of overlooking him for the post of Navy chief despite he being the seniormost.
Vice Admiral Verma is in Delhi to attend the naval commanders' conference which was inaugurated by defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday.
Sources said Verma withdrew his petition after being told by the AFT that he should first explore 'internal remedies' to his grievances.
In his petition, Vice Admiral Verma has challenged the government's move to ignore his seniority and appoint his junior as the next chief of Navy.
Vice-Admiral Singh was commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1980 and earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1982.
