Born in 1954 in Bihar, Prasad started his political innings as a student leader in 1970s organising protests against the then Indira Gandhi government.
The Congress chief was campaigning for party candidate Shatrughan Sinha contesting from Patna-Sahib Lok Sabha constituency against BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The roadshow is seen as a reply to BJP chief Amit Shah and PM Modi's rallies here on Tuesday.
Sinha had used the vehicle of Patna police escort party on Monday during his road show after filing his nomination papers for Patna Sahib LS seat.
Patna-born Sinha, 73, also the senior-most candidate from the Patna Sahib seat, owns seven vehicles, including one Ambassador, two Camrys, a Fortuner, an Innova, a Maruti Ciaz and a Scorpio.
Shatrughan Sinha took out a roadshow in the state capital which saw the participation of hundreds of residents and supporters.
Sinha courted controversy for saying that "from Mahatma Gandhi to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, all are part of Congress Parivar."

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain slammed Sinha for the remark.
He joined the BJP as he admired its stalwarts, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, but the "two-men army" completely sidelined Advani and other senior leaders, Sinha said.
About his wife contesting from Lucknow on SP ticket, Sinha claimed that Congress president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have knowledge of it.
Sinha, an SP-BSP-RLD candidate from Lucknow, is pitted against Union Minister Rajnath Singh in the constituency. Rajnath had won from Lucknow in the 2014 general elections.
'Poonam Sinha has joined the Samajwadi Party in presence of SP leader Dimple Yadav in Lucknow,' said the Samajwadi Party in a tweet.
He also said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi is dynamic, dashing and a visionary leader, somebody the country needs now.
