Bihar: Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP lands on verge of split as its Bihar legislators choose to stay with NDA
Both the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) MLAs-- Sudhanshu Shekhar and Lalan Paswan-- and its lone MLC-Sanjiv Singh Shyam- made a statement to this effect at a joint press conference here.
Kushwaha, who is the second BJP ally to quit the Modi government after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), said in a long letter that the Union Cabinet "has been reduced to a mere rubber stamp".
The two MLAs – Lalan Paswan and Sudhanshu Shekhar – claimed the party chief’s decision to walk out of NDA was not supported by a majority of the party’s rank and file.
The new NDA government Kumar formed with BJP and its three Bihar allies – RLSP, LJP and HAM – gave one cabinet berth to an LJP leader and none to RLSP.
Kushwaha, whose break-up with the BJP was expected, sharply attacked Modi on a host of issues in his resignation letter, which was also released to the media.

Kushwaha, who was a Minister of State of the Union HRD Department, has been targeting the BJP and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a key ally of the ruling party, for weeks.
The RLSP chief has been upset with the BJP after it asserted that the RLSP would not be given more than two seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Kushwaha had said that the number of seats the party was offered was not respectable and asked the BJP to do a rethink by November 30.
A formal announcement of RLSP’s exit from NDA is all set to be made at the party’s open-house conference at Motihari in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Thursday.
