Though the state government claims to have built 10,000 shelters for stray cattle but the problem remains unresolved.
An arrangement of Rs 200 crore for 'Kanha gaushala' and destitute cattle shelter scheme in urban areas while 247. 60 crore has been proposed construction of 'gaushalas' in urban areas.
The state government has also approved changing the name of Mughalsarai tehsil to Deen Dayal Deen Dayal Upadhaya tehsil.
Adityanath directed strict action against owners of stray cattle and those locking up the animals in government buildings, an official said.
The new state policy related to cow protection and welfare provides for a 0.5 per cent additional levy on excise items to fund the construction and maintenance of cow shelters across the state.
After repeated pleas to the government for cow shelters, there has been no action and the cattle are destroying the crops.
