The Lok Sabha on Monday passed a Bill which seeks to prevent commercial surrogacy in the country.
The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2019 seeks to ban commercial surrogacy and only close relatives will be permitted to act as surrogates.
The bill was termed "illogical" by some, but many also said that it was high time the practice of commercial surrogacy was checked.
The bill was passed by Lok Sabha in December, 2018 but lapsed as it could not get nod from Parliament.
The analysis was carried out by researchers from the French Institute of Demographic Studies, Paris and Indian Institute of Population Sciences, Mumbai.
As soon as the news came out on Thursday, celebrities and fans took to Twitter to wish Ekta Kapoor for the new chapter in her life.
The Lok Sabha had last month passed the bill that bars commercial surrogacy and allows the process only by close relatives for 'altruistic' reasons.
