Pakistan Taliban appoints Khalid as new chief

Pakistan Taliban Saturday appointed Khan Said Sajna alias Khalid as its new chief after a US drone attack killed its former leader Hakimullah Mehsud in Pakistan's North Waziristan region Friday, a media report said.

A meeting of the Pakistani Taliban's Shura (Council) named Khan Said Sajna as Mehsud's successor, the Dawn reported.

Said, 36, is credited with masterminding the 2012 jailbreak in which the Taliban freed 400 inmates in Bannu city, the report added.
