Myanmar Urges for Closer UN-ASEAN Ties

Myanmar President U Thein Sein Friday urged the United Nations (UN) to further strengthen and expand the areas of cooperation for the people of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

YANGON: Myanmar President U Thein Sein Friday urged the United Nations (UN) to further strengthen and expand the areas of cooperation for the people of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He made the call in his message on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the founding of the UN, Xinhua reported.

As current chair of ASEAN and as a nation, Myanmar welcomes the cooperation between ASEAN and the UN through the implementation of the Joint Declaration on the Comprehensive Partnership Nov 19, 2011, said the president.

He said Myanmar is determined to keep the current reform on track by securing peace and national reconciliation to ensure political stability and socio-economic development of the country.

He thanked the UN for its support to Myanmar.
