DHAKA: At least 10 persons were killed in Bangladesh and several others injured early on Friday as a truck veered off a road in the Mymensingh district, a police official said.

All victims died on the spot around 122 km from here, while four others were left injured, Mamun Rashid said, adding that the cement-laden truck fell in a ditch, Xinhua news agency reported.

Rashid said the accident occurred about 4 a.m. The victims were mostly day labourers. The cause of the accident was not clear.

Bangladesh has high fatality rates for road accidents mainly due to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles and violation of traffic rules by drivers.
