NATO vows to step up role in fighting terrorism

NATO country leaders decided to increase assistance to the Afghan Security Forces, providing more trainers and extending financial support.

BRUSSELS: The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members are determined to step up its role in the fight against terrorism, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday.

"We are determined to preserve our gains in the fight against ISIS and prevent them from coming back. So today, we launched a new training mission in Iraq, we decided to increase our support for our partners," Xinhua quoted Stoltenberg as saying.

According to a declaration issued on Wednesday, NATO country leaders decided to increase assistance to the Afghan Security Forces, providing more trainers and extending financial support.

NATO members also decided to set up new counter-hybrid support teams and to draw on national cyber capabilities to address hybrid threats.
