The Sri Lankan Minister for Fisheries, Rajitha Senaratne, is making efforts to rope in the Tamil National Alliance (TNA)-dominated Northern Provincial Council (NPC) to present a united Lankan front at the forthcoming talks between Lankan and Tamil Nadu fishermen to resolve the fishing row between the two countries.

The Minister of Fisheries of the Northern Province,  B Deniswaran, told Express on Tuesday that Senaratne would be travelling to Jaffna to meet him in this regard.

Although Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen’s associations have been complaining about poaching by TN fishermen and the use of destructive bottom trawling by them, the TNA and the NPC have not raised the issue for fear of alienating Tamil Nadu.

The Colombo-based Lankan government has been mocking North Tamil politicians for not defending their own fishermen.
