Heavy black smoke was seen rising from the crash site near Forensic Cross Road. Visuals from local crews show extensive wreckage and fire. Firefighters and rescue personnel are on site conducting evacuation and containment.
The plane crashed outside the airport perimeter after reaching an altitude of about 825 ft; 242 people were reportedly on board. At least 60 bodies have been recovered from the crash site.
Air India crash in Ahmedabad
The only plane accident in India with more casualties was the mid-air collision of two aircraft over Charkhi Dadri in Haryana in 1996 in which 349 people died.
