A man and his crane

From our online archive

Arif Khan Gurjar found the sarus crane lying unconscious in his fields in a village in Amethi district, UP, in Feb 2022.

Gurjar took painstaking care of the bird and revived it.

Even when he left the sarus in the fields to fly away, it came back to him.

Gurjar says, the sarus, the tallest flying bird in the world, eats home food.

As the bird gets uncomfortable when he's not around, Gurjar has not attended any family function in the last year.

There are only 15,000-20,000 sarus crane birds found in India, a majority of which are in UP.
