BANGALORE: A slum in the making, this is how K R Puram constituency can be described.

The road to A Narayanapura, which is under construction leads to the promised ‘playground/ bus stand.’ But the same is slowly being converted into a slum.

“The logic behind creating a slum is quite apparent,” said a resident on condition of anonymity.

“The leaders get paid by the encroachers. The leaders even manage to get votes from the people who live there, by promising them several development projects,” he said.

“When Sangliana was elected Member of Parliament, he had promised to convert over 10 acres of government land near A Narayanapura, into a park or a bus stand. However, ex-councillors with the help of goons allowed some people to encroach upon government land,” the resident said.

Most parts of K R Puram Assembly constituency did not earlier come under the BBMP limits and hence, the development of many places in the constituency had been on the backburner for a while.

People expect some development to take place at least in future.

While the constituency is home to some of the most backward sections of the society, it also has posh apartments and flats, given the proximity to the Technology Park.

Areas like Pai Layout are well off compared to the slums.
