City cartoonist is best budding talent

Seven cartoonists were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at National Cartoonist Conference held in the city.

BANGALORE: Seven cartoonists — Kaak, VT Thomas (Toms), T Venkata Rao, MK Govindakumar (Madhan), Prabhakar Raobail, EP Unny and Vasant Sarvate — were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Cartoonist Conference held in the city on Monday.

The event, organised by the Indian Institute of Cartoonists (IIC), saw the presence of prominent cartoonists from all over the country.

The Maya Kamat Memorial Awards of Excellence in Cartooning were also given away at the event.

Cartoonists Sandeep Adhwaryu, Ramadhyani and Shankar won the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Award for Best Budding Cartoonist was bagged by Bangalore-based cartoonist Mujeeb Patla. The Special Jury Award went to Pakistani cartoonist Muhammed Zahoor.

IIC Chairman and Managing Director of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) Ashok Kheny was felicitated at the event.

Speaking at the event, Kheny said at the event that there are plans afoot to start cartoon galleries in the state. “All national and international cartoon works will be exhibited at the gallery. The project will start next year,” Kheny said.
