BENGALURU: TWO city-based advocates have filed a private complaint against Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra for his alleged derogatory remarks against advocate associations, on Friday.

Advocates Vedamurthy and Prakash Shetty filed the complaint under Sections 499 and 500 of IPC. The magistrate court is yet to take cognizance of the complaint.

Meanwhile, a group of advocates staged dharna in front of Vidhana Soudha against the minister. H C Shivaramu, president of the Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, also condemned the minister’s alleged statement. He also warned that they will launch a state-wide protest if he doesn’t offer unconditional apology.

It may be recalled that on Thursday, Jayachandra said that the advocates associations have become gambling dens. This statement has irked advocates across the state.

Meanwhile, Jayachandra on Friday has clarified in Tumakuru that his remarks were a slip of the tongue. “ I too hail from the lawyers fraternity and did a lot for them by implementing many good works. Some are in the pipeline”, he claimed
