A week, and still no signal

BSNL users are irked by network issues and officials’ vague replies

BENGALURU: For a week now, BSNL users in Malleswaram, Sheshadripuram, Vayalikaval, Hebbal and surrounding areas have been complaining of network connectivity problems.

While landline calls have disturbances, mobile and Internet users have it far worse.

“There are several call drops, and I have to restart the phone every 15 minutes to get a signal,” rued Sreesh Dadu, an advertising consultant.

With complaints pouring in, BSNL customer care officials respond with a rude, ‘It’ll be rectified,’ before hanging up.

With no specific cause being cited, customers are confused whether the BSNL officials are aware that there is a connectivity problem at all.

“There are certain technical difficulties that would be recognised within two days,” said customer care official Vinay.

Srinivas Murthy, a senior technical engineer at BSNL, responded similarly to complaints. “We know there is a problem but we don’t know where. We’ll find out and rectify it as soon as possible,” he said. Since it has been a week with minimum or no service, users are irked and are expecting compensation with a week’s rental rebate.

Businessman Shashikant V and entrepreneur Rashma S hope the issue will be resolved soon. But their professional losses due to lack of connectivity far exceed this, they say.

As for the number of complaints they have received regarding connectivity over the past couple of days, customer care representatives replied with a vague ‘hundreds of calls’.
