CHENNAI: The third edition of the 'Chennai Marathon', carrying a total prize money of Rs 19 lakh, will be held here on August 29, organisers said today.

"This year's marathon run will have a theme, "My City, My Pride" aimed at inspiring residents to do their bit for their metropolis," said Kanimozhi, Rajya Sabha MP and patron of 'Tamil Maiyam', organising the event.

"It may range from better civic conditions to better health of people. The theme is to inspire the people of Chennai to do their bit for the city," she said.

Many celebrities including vocalists and sportspersons have promised to sponsor and train children of 'GiveLife', the beneficiary NGO, in areas of their expertise.

Some of the celebrities were vocalists Bombay Jayashree and Sudha Raghunathan, Hockey Olympian Md Riaz and football player Raman Vijayan.

The top three winners in the 21 km half marathon will take home Rs three lakh, Rs two lakh and Rs one lakh, respectively, in both men's and women's categories, she said.

In the previous edition, about 6000 persons participated in the 21 km run.
