Bringing the race to India

Express News Service

Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna has enjoyed a successful career, one which is still going strong with his latest film Damurukam releasing today.

However, expanding his business interests, the actor has launched yet another N venture and this one is for the big bucks.

Tying up with Bengaluru-based heart surgeon, Nandish Domulur and cricketer MS Dhoni, Nagarjuna has set up Mahi Racing Team India, a professional superbike team that will compete in the FIM Supersport World Championship next year.

The quartet of professional riders, which includes triple world champion Kenan Sofouglu, former winner Fabien Foret, Dan Linfoot and Florian Marino, is backed by Kawasaki as its factory team.

Speaking about the launch, the actor said, “I’ve always been a fan of races and have tried to catch up as many as I can when I’m abroad. So, when the opportunity came for me to set up my own team, I jumped at it. There is a lot of potential in the country, creating a professional team isn’t the end of it; we’re also looking at setting up a training school.”

Since their debut at the Supersport World Championship, the team landed a podium finish at the 10th race at Brno, Czech Republic.

Explaining further on their plans, Nandish added, “We joined the circuit this year to wrinkle out the problems we knew we’d face. And a podium finish was definitely not on the cards. The year 2013 is going to be exciting as we’re starting from the beginning with the first race in Australia and the second at Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi. So hopefully we’ll end the year with a championship win.”
