KOCHI: A V Ramakrishna Pillai and Babu Mathew P Joseph  were sworn in as new judges of the Kerala  High Court on Wednesday.

Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur administered the oath of office to the two at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Chief Justice court hall. The warrant of appointment was read out by Registrar (Subordinate Judiciary) A Hariprasad. With their appointment, the number of judges has gone up to 34.

Advocate-General K P Dandapani, Kerala High Court Advocates’ Assn president B Gopakumar and secretary M R Nandakumar welcomed to the new judges.  A V Ramakrishna Pillai and Babu Mathew were serving as the High Court Registrar General and the Wayanad District Judge respectively. Ramakrishna Pillai started practice as a junior under criminal lawyer, the late M N Sukumaran Nair, before being appointed District Judge in 1995. In 2003, he was appointed Registrar and later the Registrar General.

 Babu Mathew began his career as a junior under former Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad. He later became the district judge at Thrissur, Kozhikode and Manjeri.
