Final farewell to Kalamandalam Rajan

Kathakali exponent Kalamandalam Rajan who died on Wednesday was cremated on the premises of his residence here on Thursday. His grandson Arjun Rajan lit the pyre.

People from Kalamandalam, Kalanilayam and RLV College of Music and Fine Arts were present. After the funeral, a condolence meet was held at Kalikotta Palace here. His disciples, colleagues and friends shared their memories on the occasion.

Artist Evoor Sadasivan Nair said the new generation artists have many things to learn from the life of Kalamandalam Rajan. He noted that his approach towards Kathakali for which he dedicated his whole life should be adopted by the younger generation. “There are two unique things in him: he was ready to perform any role in Kathakali. Secondly, he was available at any time. This kind of dedication and enthusiasm are rare in artists nowadays, he said.

Tripunithura municipal chairman R Venugopal,  Kalamandalam Prabhakaran and various Kathakali artists Fact Padmanabhan, C R Varma, K T Ramavarma, Haridasan Thampuran, Damodara Pisharadi and Kalamandalam Sreekumar also commemorated the deceased.
