Shantigram in T’Puram selected as best biodiversity organisation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Biodiversity Board has selected Shahul Hameed from Kasargod as the best environment activist for the year 2014. Shahul was selected for the prize as part of the ‘Biodiversity prizes’ instituted by the Board.

While K R Jayan from Thrissur will be given the prize for protecting the original species of plants, Rajan Babu from Kayamkulam was selected as the best organic farmer. N V Balakrishnan from Kozhikode was selected for the prize for best cattle-rearing techniques. Dr M V Vishnu Namboothiri from Kannur will be presented the prize for conserving traditional knowledge.

Dr K S Anoop Das will be awarded the prize for being the best biodiversity researcher. The prize for best biodiversity club will be given to Irinjalakuda Christ College and the prize for best practices will be given to Cherthala St Michael’s College.

The prize for best school will be given to Kozhikode Thrikutteswari government upper primary school. Shantigram in Thiruvananthapuram was selected as the best biodiversity organisation.

A cash award of Rs 50,000 and citation will be presented to the winners.
