Latching on to the Sir Creek issue as Gujarat entered the last lap of campaigning for the second phase of elections on December 17, Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hit out at the Congress and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) “for keeping the country in dark over the issue”.
Modi also slammed the UPA “for lacking the guts to take on Pakistani interior minister Rehman Malik” for his remarks, wherein he equated the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to the 1992 Babri demolition.
“Neither the PM has responded to my questions on Sir Creek issue nor the Congress.... You have kept the people of India in dark on this issue,” Modi said, at election rallies in different places on the last day of the campaigning for the final phase of polls. The PMO, on Wednesday, had rubbished Modi’s claim that the “Indian Government was planning to hand over Sir Creek to Pakistan”.
Dismissing allegations of the Congress that he had raked up the Sir Creek issue “to drive political mileage” in state elections, Modi said the Congress could get the elections postponed if they felt he had raked up the issue to get more votes. “Elections will come and go. But, I am more concerned about the security of the country,” he said.
“The issue of Sir Creek is not one of politics for me, but this concerns the very nation,” Modi said on Twitter. He also blasted Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. “I am fully confident that Rahul will fulfil Mahatma Gandhiji’s dream of disbanding the Congress after Independence,” he said.
