Little-known Gurgaon Congress MP, Rao Inderjit Singh, on Monday asked for an inquiry into the large-scale changes effected in land use in his constituency, which has benefited, among others, Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law, Robert Vadra.
Those aware of the infighting in Haryana Congress, broadly divided into CM Bhupinder Hooda-clan and anti-Hooda lobby, knew that Rao Inderjit was getting at the CM’s “administrative mismanagement”, bringing Vadra into the loop.
A State Congress minister told Express, so much is the strife within ( the Congress) that “the MP didn’t mind fishing in troubled waters, just to embarrass the CM.”
Rao Inderjit’s interjection was indeed quite sharp. “I’m not in the business of prosecuting Robert Vadra,” he said, but “I’m in the business of seeing (whether with) land in my constituency, anybody has made money illegally, they should all be held accountable and that includes Robert Vadra. He should be accountable as well.”
By way of clarification, he later said that he had “only replied to a pointed query” on the alleged irregularities in the land deals between Vadra and realty major DLF on the basis of IAS officer Ashok Khemka’s report. “I said it because: if an inquiry happens, it will be clear which people from which parties are involved,” he added, making another loaded statement to get out of the first controversy.
However, his target was clear as he went on to add that an inquiry should not be confined to the four acres of Vadra-DLF deal but should extend to the 1,200 acres of panchayat land released by the Haryana government.
“Whenever there is a talk on irregularities on land deal in view of change of land use, it should be focused not on one individual, who is the son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The probe should cover everyone” named, he added.
