Former Navy chief Admiral J G Nadkarni passes away

NEW DELHI: Former chief of naval staff Admiral J G Nadkarni passed away today.

He was the Navy chief between December 1, 1987 and November 30, 1990. 

The 14th Navy chief, he died at naval hospital in Mumbai.

Condoling his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he served the nation with utmost diligence.

"Anguished by the demise of Admiral J G Nadkarni. He served the nation with utmost diligence and was passionate about maritime history. My thoughts are with his family and friends," the PMO tweeted quoting Modi.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also condoled his demise.
