VIJAYAWADA: The Shiv Bhakta Mandal celebrated the ‘Kavad Yatra’ at Guru Nanak Colony here today.

A large number of Shiv devotees gathered at the Durga Ghat and collected holy water in their pots.

Later, they carried the water with ‘Kavad’ on their shoulders passing through MG Road, Ring Road and reached Guru Nanak Colony in a procession.

Once in the colony, they performed a ‘pooja’ at the Shiv Mandir and conducted ‘abhishekam’ with holy water. Govind Sharma, convenor of the Shiv Bhakta Mandal, said that the ‘yatra’ was performed to please Lord Shiv in the auspicious month of Sravan.

Hundreds of men and women enthusiastically participated in the ‘yatra’ wearing clothes. On the way, a large number of locals joined the ‘yatra’.

Members of the Vijayawada Brahmin Samaj, Vijayawada Maheswari Samaj, Vi - jayawada Agarwal Samaj, Vijayawada Rajpurohit Samaj, Jain Terapandh Yuvak Mandal and Jain Digambar Samaj participated.
