HYDERABAD: With eyes full of idealism, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) high rankers from Andhra Pradesh spoke of doing good for the poor even as they savoured their success. Some 26 candidates from the state secured high ranks in UPSC-2009, the results of which were announced on Thursday.
The AP toppers list is headed by Bharat Kumar Gupta, a medical student from Kurnool and son of a railway engineer posted at Gooty. Bharat Kumar secured 17th rank in the civils list, in what was his first shot at the much-favoured service.
Bharat completed his medicine last year from Kurnool Medical College, and is now an intern.
He dedicated his success to his middle-class parents and his little sister. His purpose in the life ahead is two-fold: serve the poor by delivering to them the fruits of welfare programmes and stay away from corruption. Second in the state honour list and 43rd nationally is Kartikeya Goel, son of retired IAS officer A K Goel. Kartikeya was selected to the Indian Revenue Service in 2008, and is being trained at the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics at Faridabad.
“This result is a culmination of five years of effort. I commit myself to the poor,’’ he said.
Another topper P Bharati, 59th ranker at the national level, was selected to the IPS (ranked 274) in her first attempt in UPSC-2008 and is now in training at the Sardar Patel National Police Academy here. Ch Vijaya Rao (102), Hari Chandana Dasari (150), Ch Sudheer Kumar Reddy (167) and Laya Madduri (201) are the other toppers in the state.
