CPM slams CM for misleading SCs, STs

Express News Service

Claiming credit for the implementation of the SC/ST sub-plan in the State, the CPM State committee has accused Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of carrying on a misleading propaganda about alleged opposition parties’ non-cooperation.

The two-day state committee meeting, which ended here Wednesday, discussed several issues regarding the sub-plan and other issues relating to the two communities.

Accusing the state government of diverting crores of funds meant for SCs/STs to general works despite the sub-plan, the state committee alleged that the government had allocated Rs 3,000 crore less under the sub-plan when compared to the population of both the communities as per the 2011 census.

Listing the diverted funds, the committee said the government had diverted Rs 53 crore for outer ring road, Rs 36 crore for metro rail, Rs 7 crore for modernisation of Hussiansagar and Rs 5 crore for protection of forests.

The committee also said the recent announcement by the State government of free power supply to SCs/STs consuming less than 50 units per month was the result of protests and representations by Left parties and Dalit organisations.

The CPM state committee demanded that the State government immediately appoint a chairman for the SC/ST Commission in the state.

“Though various committees are arriving from the Centre to study the attacks against SCs/STs, there was no chairman for the State SC/ST Commission to study these kind of crimes, it said.
