UDUPI: Home Minister Dr V S Acharya said that the matter of setting up a media ombudsman is a closed chapter.

"I am not going to pursue it any further. The matter is closed," said the Home Minister, who had proposed to set up a media ombudsman, to check exaggeration by the media.

"The matter has been discussed for five days. The Chief Minister, officials and technocrats will take a final decision. I still have faith in the freedom of press," he added.

Replying to a query on whether he was intolerant towards criticism, Acharya replied that it was 'an uncharitable' comment. Regarding the High Court slapping a fine of Rs 10,000 on the Home Ministry for illegally detaining B V Seetharam, senior journalist of Karavali Ale Group, he said that he was unaware of any such order and the state government would abide by the decision of the Court.
