Homestay Attack: Cops gather enough evidence

Express News Service

“The investigating officer may claim that video footage is enough, but the victims identifying the accused strengthens  the case,” a source in the Home Department said.

But for these hurdles, the police have gathered enough evidence to prove other charges such as illegal assembly, assault and outraging the modesty of a woman. Video footage taken by TV crews is likely to help the police.

“Prime accused Subash Padil has confessed to the crime. Mobile phone call records and other evidence indicate that he was the mastermind and led the well-planned attack,” another source said.

“Although we have sufficient evidence, we are still collecting more evidence to make it a watertight case,” Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh told Express.
