Express News Service

A private complaint was filed in the Lokayukta Special Court against Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly T B Jayachandra (Congress) in connection with alleged illegal allotment of government land for a truck terminal, on Thursday.

Complainant T Raghu, a former Congress party member of Tumkur district, alleged that Jayachandra got allotted the government land at Devaraj Urs Truck Terminal in Yeshwantpur through ‘illegal’ means in his wife’s name for ‘pecuniary gains’.

“Jayachandra and his wife did not own any trucks. But they had shown that she owned a truck and rented it out earning an annual income Rs 3-4 lakh. However, the same was not reflected in the declarations filed before the State Election Commission or the Lokayukta,” the counsel of the complainant said.

The market value of the space measuring 14.25x 8.7 metres was Rs 3-4 crore, he claimed. The complainant requested the court to punish him under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Judge N K Sudhindra Rao adjourned the complaint for further hearing to April 5.

The complainant submitted that Jayachandra, when he was Tumkur’s MLA in 1994, used his power to secure illegal advantage and make benefit to his family members and flouted the rules, regulations and precedents at the cost of the State.
