Kalamandalam fellowship awards

THRISSUR: Kathakali acharyan and authority in the Kaplingadan style of Kathakali, Madavoor Vasudevan Nair has been selected for the fellowship of the Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for the year 2007.

Announcing the fellowship and awards at a news conference here on Friday , Vice-Chancellor K G Poulose, registrar N R Gramaprakash and V Kaladharan said that the fellowship consists of Rs 20,000, ponnadai, artifact and a citation.

Thullal exponent K S Divakaran Nair has been selected for the Kalaratnam award consisting of Rs 12,000, ponnada, artifact and citation. The other awards, consisting of Rs 10,000, citation, ponnada and artifact each, announced are: Kathakali Vesham artists Kottakkal Chandrasekharan, Mathoor Govindankutty, Mohiniyattam exponent Kalamandalam Thankmanikutty, Koodiyattam exponent Ammannur Kuttan Chakyar, Maddalam artist Kalamandalam Eswara Warrier, Thullal artist Kuttamath Janardanan and M R Rajan for documentary.

Killimangalam Vasudevan Namboodiripad and Kalamandalam M P S Namboodiri share the award of Rs.10, 000, ponnada and citation for art literature.

Eeyamkod Sreedharan has been selected for the Mukundaraja Smruthi Puraskaram of Rs 5, 000, artifact, ponnada and citation while Vineetha Nedungady and Kalamandalam Sindhu have been selected for Dr V S Sharma and Bhagavathar Kunj u n n i T h a m p u r a n puraskarams respectively.

Poulose said that the endowment and awards will be distributed by the Minister for Cultural Affairs M A Baby at the Founder’s Day celebration in Kalamandalam at 5.30 pm on November 9. He said that the cash parts of most of these awards were doubled for the year 2007 as compared to the previous year.
