KPCC vice-president N Peethambara Kurup came out with a clarification on his reported controversial speech on RSP’s entry into the UDF, after KPCC president V M Sudheeran sought an explanation from him.

On Friday, Peethambara Kurup came out with a statement that his speech during the election campaign at Vadi in Kollam was completely twisted by a section of media. “I did not say that I was aware much earlier about RSP’s entry into the UDF fold. My speech was purposefully distorted for targeting me politically,” his statement said.

He said that it was the duty of every Congress activist and the UDF to ensure N K Premachandran’s victory.

“I am not a person who will shy away from doing my duty,” he said.

Statement was Untimely: KC Joseph

Kottayam: The statement by Congress representative N Peethambara Kurup, that the senior leaders of the Congress party were aware of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP)’s decision to quit the Left Democratic Front (LDF), was untimely and unnecessary, Minister for Rural Development K C Joseph said here on Friday.

“What Kurup said was not factual. No talks or previous understanding have been made with the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the RSP before the quitting. It was their own decision to quit LDF and cross over to UDF,” he added.Peethamabara Kurup had made a statement on Thursday that senior Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, had discussed this topic with him. However, the CM had denied this claim immediately. Talking at the press club here on Friday, Joseph said that there is no financial crisis in the state but a slight financial crunch.

“It was a result of the UDF government using a maximum of funds for various developmental activities in the state.

Thomas Isaac’s statement was a deliberate attempt to mislead people. The decline in revenue income has led to the current financial crunch. Finance Minister K M Mani is well able to handle the situation and all the due arrears in the state will be paid off this month itself,” he said. “In the case of the MGNREGS, the CPM was exploiting the labourers by not paying their remunerations on time, the minister said.
