KOCHI:Union Minister Alphons Kannanthanam on Monday visited the Cochin Port Trust (CPT) Avenue Walkway project site at Willingdon Island and reviewed the progress of tourism infrastructure in the area. He was briefed on the project’s salient features by CPT chairman A V Ramana.
The 2.1 km- long waterside walkway is being developed by the CPT on one side of the National Highway at Willingdon Island between the BOT Bridge and the Kannanghat Bridge with financial Assistance from the Tourism Ministry.
Already, the ministry has sanctioned `9crore for the project.Besides, `23 crore has been allocated for constructing a state-of-the-art Cruise Terminal at the CPT’s Ernakulam wharf.The new cruise terminal having an area of 2,285 sq m will be equipped with 30 immigration counters and all other facilities to cater to upto 5,000 cruise passengers.
Samudrika, the cruise passenger facilitation centre on the Mattanchery side of the port area, was also funded by the Tourism Ministry. G Vaidyanathan, Chief Engineer and C Premakumari, CPT secretary, were also present.
