ANGUL: The Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) meeting of three industries, including the Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), was held today under the chairmanship of Revenue Divisional Commissioner (northern division) J.A.Khan.

Sources said the Committee failed to take any decision on the demand of cash compensation of Rs 15 lakh by land losers of Jindal India Thermal Power Ltd.

A sub-committee was formed under the district collector to look into the demand and report in a month.

JSPL officials announced in the meeting to absorb all the displaced persons on the basis of eligibility. It will, however, consider offering employment to the land losers and the affected persons in phases as the company’s 12 MT capacity steel plant will be set up in two phases. The JSPL officials said that there would be 18,000 direct and indirect jobs in the plant when it is completed.

The Committee rejected the demand by a section of JSPL land-losers to enhance the ex gratia. The Monnet Ispat and Energy Limited agreed to provide employment to 162 displaced people of the Malibrahmani village.
