The State Government has set a target to train 1.7 lakh youths during the current financial year to create self-employment opportunities.

The State Government has set a target to train 1.7 lakh youths during the current financial year to create self-employment opportunities.

Out of them, 60,000 will be trained by the State Employment Mission (SEM) and the rest by other departments. Official sources said 14 training partners have been put on the job and 62 training centres set up in different districts.

Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik reviewed the progress in implementation of the decision recently.

He directed the district collectors to prioritise location and commissioning of training centres for skill development activities in each district.

Around 14 more training partners will be finalised and asked to open their centres in districts on first come and first serve basis. Mobilisation camps have been organised in various districts and around one lakh candidates enlisted for different training.

Employment mission has opened centres in various districts to train 4,553 candidates in one batch. This will be scaled up soon by putting in more training partners and setting up new training centres.

Till now, the national-level agencies like Skylark, Grass Academy, Globsyn Skills, Britti Prasikshyan, L & T, Seri Sahaj, Gram Tarang, Basix Academy, Team Lease, CIDC, IL & FS, Empower Pragati and Institute of Computer Academy have been selected as training partners.

Now 3,737 candidates are undergoing training in different districts, 2207 have completed training and 1,345 have been employed after completion of training in placement linked training programme.

The district collectors have also been asked to organise job fair prior to scrutiny.

Official sources said poly-technics have been constructed in different districts.

The capacity of ITI and Bose Engineering Institute, Cuttack will be enhanced to open skill training centres. Cuttack Collector has been asked to identify location for second campus of ITI and Polytechnic in the district since the existing campus does not have sufficient space for expansion.

The district collectors have also been asked to keep the Odisha Public Service Delivery Act in mind and ensure that all the 34 services enlisted are delivered within specified time frame without fail.
