A man was arrested by Bhawanipatna Sadar police for allegedly killing his daughter in order to get hidden treasure.
The incident occurred on August 18 last year. Police said Okila Chattar of Tentulikhuni village had hacked his 10-year-old daughter while she was asleep.
The accused had planned to cut the right hand of his daughter and offer it along with her blood to a deity to be able to get hidden treasure.
He, however, could not proceed with his plan as hearing the girl’s screams his family members woke up. She died of profuse bleeding the same day. To evade arrest, Okila lodged a complaint at Bhawanipatna Sadar police station alleging that some of his enemies killed his daughter and fled.
During course of investigation, police found out that Okila had committed the crime and lodged the false case to escape.
He was produced before the Bhawanipatna SDJM which remanded him in judicial custody.
