Leaders pay homage to Thevar

Devotees from all parts of the State had gathered in large numbers to pay homage to their icon at his memorial.

RAMANATHAPURAM: Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilizer, M K Alagiri paid his tribute to Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on the last day of the three-day celebrations of the 47th Guru Pooja and the 102nd birth anniversary on Friday. Devotees from all parts of the State had gathered in large numbers to pay homage to their icon at his memorial.

He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor of Madurai, Mannan, Ministers Suba Thangavelan, Thangam Thennarasu, Tamilarasi, K K S S R Ramachandran and I Periyasamy. Among others who visited the memorial were former AIADMK ministers O Pannerselvam, V T Natarajan, Kannappan and Sathiyamurthy. G K Mani, secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi, Sethuraman, president, the All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam, Sridhar Vandayar, leader of the Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam, former minister S Thirunavukarasar, P T Arasa Kumar, president of the Dravidar Vizhipunarchi Kazhagam and Subramaniam Swamy, president of the Janata Party also turned up to pay their homage. Leaders from the Congress and other parties were also present.

A large number of police personnel had been deployed at all sensitive areas of the district to maintain law and order.  Krishnamurthy, IG (south zone) , Balasubramaniam, DIG, 12 district SPs, including Pradeep Kumar, Senthil Velan and Nagarajan and other police officers were in charge of the security arrangements at the function.
